Always Judge a Book by It's Cover

Never judge a book by its cover. We all know the phrase and it would be a safe bet to say that nearly everyone who reads this has used the phrase once or twice in their lives.
But is it apt? is it correct? While I would like to say yes, the answer is a full no. Let me explain why:

If you are walking down the street, you are not sure if you need to go left or right, and you spot a person with shabby clothes, holes rips etc in their clothing and a scruffy beard. 6 metres further is someone standing in a suit and tie. Who would you ask for directions? The scruffy beard or the tie?
And why would you not ask the scruffy beard? Exactly, because the way he looks, the other person seems more reliable and safe. So you just judged that book by its cover.

Lets take a look at another example, as seem from a mans perspective, however the same goes for the female perspective:
You’re in a bar, you’re single and looking for a new face to meet. You see three women standing at the bar. One has done nothing to her appearance, no make up, old styled clothing. The second has done her make up to perfection, however her teeth are horrible to look at. The last women has done her make up, has put on stylish clothing and has a smile on her face.
Most men would go for number three.
Judging a book its cover.

This still holds up when dealing with people you know.
Personally I usually dress in army boots, cargopants, band tshirt and some jewellery like a necklace. I also wear this to my job where I am responsible for leading a support team.
My co workers have always treated me good, always willing to listen, always willing to do one step extra if I requested it.
Then I changed my wardrobe to: Biker boots, different kind of cargo pants, overhemd and a gillete, topped of with some jewelery.
Now everybody is willing to do even more, and I don’t even have to ask! My clothing is looking more professional and everybody on my department has started to do more, out of their own free will.
I haven’t changed, I am still Pep, I am still in the same position, I still curse like a dockworker while walking over the department.
My clithing has made a significant change in how people see me, and judge me.

Going back to my first example, I am both persons. I can be the man in the ripped clothing, I can also be the man in the suit.
Same person, different cover, different treatment.

Always judge a book by its cover, it’s a natural thing to do.
