Barren Existence

Endlessly staring out the window
Cars and trucks pass by
All caught up in the rat race called life
Devoid of wonder and sentiment

A quick cashgrab here
Fast money schemes there
Piles of cash under the pillow
Richer and richer

Never a silent minute
Always at least background noises
Highways and air traffic
Buzzing into the night

Is this actual life
The perpetual search for wealth
Without an end until you perish
How barren of an existence
